The sports chiropractor is a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) which means they have completed a four-year doctorate program at a nationally accredited institution.

In addition to chiropractic medicine training, sport chiropractors can have two further educational certificates: CCSP® and DACBSP®.

CCSP® stands for Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, a certification that requires additional training, and testing beyond the doctorate (DC) degree. This program requires 100-hour additional hours of postgraduate education. All candidates must have hands on emergency procedure course and health care provider level CPR certification course. Once all requirements are met then candidates are then able to sit for the written exam that consist of two parts.

DACBSP® stands for Diplomate of American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians, a certification that requires additional training, and testing beyond doctoral (DC) degree and CCSP® certification. This program requires 300-hour additional hours of postgraduate program. All candidates must have hands-on emergency procedure course and a health care provider level CPR certification course. Once the candidate has completed CCSP® certification and met all requirements, then the candidate may sit for the exam process for DACBSP®.

Earning the DACBSP® certification requires completion of written exam, six station practical exam, written project, and 100 hour of practical field hours.
